Definitely the shortest step of the design process, but arguably the most powerful, intention setting marks the moment that we acknowledge the collective wisdom of us all co-creating the project together–including the clients, builders, and the astounding contributions of nature–and vow for us all to move forward in a good way.

This is where the design magic truly begins. This is where the client’s program, aspirations, and values meet both our right-brained, holistic understanding of good design and our left-brained management of building codes, budgets, and timelines, resulting in inspiring, highly-functional schematic designs.

Once the basic schematic design is approved, 3 Lights Design begins the process of developing the code-compliant, legal set of drawings per the requirements of the presiding building department, the set of drawings that will also provide the guidelines for building the project during construction.

While many architects and designers believe that contractors are only supposed to follow a set of architecture drawings without question, we view construction as yet another opportunity to refine the design. Accordingly, we invite and encourage contractors, subcontractors, and craftsmen alike to share their valuable insights, helping us further improve the project.

Though the project ends, life continues.
