Austin Hill Shaw Talks on The Five Essentials of Designing and Building Sacred Space, Part I

Apr 21, 2018 | how-to for architects and designers

In this talk, filmed at the Lightning in a Bottle Festival on the morning of Saturday, May 26, 2012, I create a framework bringing sacred outlook and a profound sense of connection into the process of designing and building specifically and creativity in general. The framework comes from Vajrayana Buddhism, also known as Tantric Buddhism, a way of experiencing the world that stresses the awakened nature of all experiences.

This talk begins by showing how we fail to feel connected to the world around us, positing steps, noting that the seeds of the disconnect, when viewed from a different perspective, can germinate into sacred outlook and a profound experience of intimacy with the world around us. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did giving it! I will release Part II next Wednesday. May they ignite your own creativity! http://youtu.be/AOV2ytux37E
