3 Lights Design is a residential and commercial design collective specializing in creating inspiring, highly functional, harmonious designs, using a wide range of materials, including green and recycled materials, employing energy efficient and cost saving strategies, and celebrating the beauty and power of natural light.

Our focus has been mainly on residential remodels, but we’ve also designed retreat and wellness centers, commercial spaces, small out buildings, and sculptural furniture pieces.

Our real specialty, however, is listening to the needs and values of the client, and, with their input, transforming those needs into beautiful and functional designs.

If so, we are always looking to bring on kind, inspired, talented, and motivated independently contracted architects, designers, and drafters to work both independently and part of our team realizing inspired projects throughout The San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.

As an independent contractor, you must have your own computer and copy of AutoCAD to qualify.

Your duties
would include:

  • Drafting and design drafting
  • Drawing production
  • 3D modeling
  • Detailing
  • Onsite measurements
  • Materials research
  • General office tasks, including:
    writing reports, memos, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-4 years architectural experience, either in an office or working on your own
  • Highly proficient in AutoCAD, including construction drawings
  • Significant experience with Sketchup as a design and rendering tool
  • Solid understanding of how a building goes together
  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in architecture
  • Strong communication skills and a good sense of humor
  • Coherent, organized, well-developed writing skills are a plus
  • Ability to work efficiently and quickly, both self-directed and as member of a team
  • Knowledge of California Building Code
  • Familiarity with Title 24 energy codes and ADA
  • Competency with Dropbox, Google Docs, Photoshop, Excel
